EcoPeace Middle East uses environmental protection as a means of peacebuilding and peacebuilding as a means of environmental protection. In 1993, the Oslo Peace Accord was signed by the government of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). It attempted to create a framework that would eventually lead to the resolution of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. At the time, it appeared that a permanent peace in the Middle East was imminent.
